In 1960 Edmund Reggie helped lead John F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign in Louisiana. After his inauguration, President Kennedy sent Reggie on a 1961 State Department diplomatic mission to the Middle East. In Lebanon, Reggie received a hero’s welcome in his family’s ancestral home of Ihden. This photo is among the most treasured by the Reggie Family.

Edmund Reggie carried into Zgharta Lebanon, 1961. Zgharta and Ihden are two neighboring towns with common heritage that are often regarded together as one place. The Maronite Christian faith is influential in this region.
